Art from the HeART

Saturday's

Grieving children often do not have the words or do not know how to express what they are feeling. For them, there is Art from the HeART.

Art from the HeART is a support group run by an art therapist specifically designed for any child in Kindergarten though 8th grade who is grieving the loss of an important person in his or her life. During group sessions, a safe atmosphere is created where children can engage in art expression and discussion, enabling them to continue their grief process. Materials and techniques used include paints, pastels, clay, sculpture, collage and more. Participants also have the unique opportunity to meet their peers who know what it is like to experience a loss through death.

Art expression allows children

normalize the grief process

express a range of feelings

strengthen memories of the deceased

increase peer support

develop and strengthen coping skills

This is a story of hardship – On
October 26, 2005 my three sisters and I lost our wonderful, outgoing mother after she had undergone an unexpected and sudden triple bypass on October 22, 2005.  She was only 65 years old.   After trying over the next several months to deal with the sudden death of our mother, we had to deal with the terrible loss our father was going through.   His entire life and way of living stopped the day our mother passed.   He was always the rock of our family – but on that fateful day he lost the love of his life and lost the will to live.  He did continue to live for his children and grandchildren but on September 4, 2007 his heart could no longer take the pain and our healthy, fun loving father and grandfather died from a massive heart attack.   Our father had never had any heart problems so to die at the young age of 69 of a massive heart attack my sisters and I definitely feel he died of a BROKEN HEART!!!!

After over 45 years of marriage the love our parents shared could no longer keep them apart.
My sisters and I am writing this letter as a plea for help.   We are trying to keep our parents home out of foreclosure and have started a “Dollar Drive”.   We know that times are tough and we have struggled for the past year to continue paying on the home but are now seeking the help of anyone reading this letter to donate a dollar to help pay the mortgage on the home; four quarters, ten .10 cent deposit cans, one dollar bill that is all we are asking.  If you can donate a dollar to our “Dollar Drive” fund or any denomination would be appreciated.  Also, if you are reading this letter, we ask that you please forward this to friends, family, employers, employees, companies, neighbors, anyone who you may think would be willing and able to help in our fight to stop the foreclosure.

As topical as today's headlines, this is a portrait of the extraordinary (and ordinary) lives of Iraqi women: a sexy painter, a radical Communist, doctors, exiles, wives and lovers. This work explores the conflicting aspects of what it means to be a woman in the war zone
Iraq. A timely meditation on the ancient, the modern and the feminine in a country overshadowed by war. "Powerful, impassioned, vivid, memorable! The voices are a study of contrasts: vivid and subdued, sophisticated and naive, seductive and standoffish. But they cohere to form a powerful collective portrait of suffering and endurance," says the New York Times. Starring Sarab Kamoo. Directed by Ed Nayhat. Co-production with Water Works Theatre Company.

We are hosting a bowling fundraiser to support research that will help move toward preventative tests and ultimately a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Our sister, Roberta Sanchez, was diagnosed in June 2008 and lost her battle just two months later on
August 28, 2008.  Through our family struggle with pancreatic cancer, we realized what a terrible disease this is and how little there is known about it in research and in treatment.  Our goal through this bowling event is to raise awareness and also funds to help finance research that will go toward developing a pre-test that would be able to detect the presence of this cancer.  This year alone of the 45,000 people that were diagnosed, only 4 or 5 percent survived.

Thank you so much, as we do what we can to help researchers create greater detection tools and fight this horrible disease.  We know there is nothing we can do now to help Roberta, but together we can fight for a cure to help those that will come after.

Young Professionals Committed To Cystic Fibrosis Foundation October Fowling Fest

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Young Professional Leadership Committee is planning a unique fundraising event.  The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is hosting its inaugural October Fowling Fest Event, which will feature Fowling games, golf drives, appetizers, beer, auctions, raffles, contests and live entertainment.  This indoor event will provide you and your friends with an evening of fun, competition and great company.  Not only is this event a worthy cause to support but it’s also an opportunity to get together with friends and family in a relaxing atmosphere. This years sponsors include Cambridge Medical Staffing, Inc., Buffalo Wild Wings & Jimmy Johns.

What is Fowling, you ask?
It is ‘The Sport of the Future.' It combines 3 of man's greatest sports… football, bowling and spirits. It gives you both the sportsmanship and competition components. This is a great game that can be found at sporting events, concerts, and your own back yard. What makes Fowling so fun is how simple people expect it to be.  Throwing a football at bowling pins from 48 feet is actually quite a challenge.  Since its debut in 2002, Fowling has spread from backyard tournaments to trackside at the Indy 500.

While helping raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation a portion of your donation is tax deductible. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar of revenue raised goes to cystic fibrosis (CF) programs to support research, care and education.
Cystic fibrosis is the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the United States today. It is a disease that affects the body’s respiratory and digestive systems, making it difficult to absorb nutrients from food and even more difficult to breathe. Since 1955, the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been to develop the means to cure and control CF and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease.
